Informed Consent

This ensures you are fully informed about the psychological services provided at Canaan Lawyers. It outlines your rights as a client, how your personal information is managed, and the nature of working with a Provisional Psychologist.

Practitioner Status and Supervision

Services are provided by a Provisional Psychologist.
• Definition:
A Provisional Psychologist is currently undertaking a period of supervised practice to achieve full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Supervision:
All work is closely monitored by a Board-Approved Supervisor. To ensure the highest standard of care, your de-identified case may be discussed in clinical supervision.

How your information is protected

• All personal information is kept strictly confidential and will only be accessed by your Provisional Psychologist and their Board-Approved Supervisor. If your matter is related to a legal case handled by Canaan Lawyers, information is only shared with the legal team with your authorisation. Client records are generally retained for seven (7) years. In accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Health Records Act 2001, your information will not be disclosed without your consent, except in the following circumstances:
• Legal Obligation: If required by law, including subpoenas or mandatory reporting obligations.or providing information is otherwise required or authorised by law.
• Safety: If there is a serious and imminent risk of harm to yourself or others.

Reports

Please note our Provisional Psychologist does not write reports for court, gender assessment reports, or reports for Centrelink or the Disability Support Pension. If you wish to have a psychological report written for these purposes, you will need to contact a psychologist who offers this service.

Use of Telehealth

  • We offer video or phone services governed by the same ethical obligations as face-to-face therapy. You are responsible for ensuring your environment supports privacy.

Fees, Payments, and Session Structure

  • Session Duration:

    The intake session is approximately 50–80 minutes in duration. Each psychological session thereafter is 50 minutes long.

    • Fees:

    The standard cost of the initial session is $300. The standard cost for each subsequent session is $200.

    • Third-Party Funding: Please note that Medicare, WorkSafe, and WorkCare rebates or claims are not applicable for services provided at Canaan Lawyers.

    • Cancellation Policy: If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, the full session fee applies. These fees remain your personal responsibility.

Your Rights and Emergency Support

You have the right to respectful, professional, and culturally sensitive service. If you have concerns, please speak with your practitioner or contact the Practice Manager.

You may also contact AHPRA if a complaint remains unresolved. Canaan Lawyers is not a crisis service. In an emergency, please call 000 or visit a hospital emergency department. For after-hours support, call Lifeline (13 11 14) or Beyond Blue (1300 22 4636).
