Robert Chong AM

Dr Robert Chong AM is a Special Advisor to Canaan Lawyers.

Dr. Chong has served the City of Whitehorse for the last fourteen years. As Councillor and two terms as mayor for the City, he has helped to build Box Hill as a vibrant business centre. He has extensive knowledge and connection in business, government, and health, social and welfare services.

The law does not operate in vacuum. True value from corporate and commercial legal services requires in-depth understanding of the clients’ needs and their ever-changing operating environments. With his extensive experience, connection and knowledge, Dr. Chong will assist us in deepening our understanding of our clients’ needs.

We are also committed to being a socially responsible legal practice. Robert will play a pivotal part in driving our Corporate Social responsibility programme.

Dr. Chong has many affiliations with community groups, including Box Hill Elgar Contact; President of Communities Council on Ethnic Issues (Eastern Region) 1995-1999; appointed by the Immigration Minister as Director of the Migrant Information Centre Inc 1998-2005; appointed by the Health Minister as Board Member of Eastern Health 2000-2009; founder of the Chinese Social Service Centre Inc; Honorary President of the Box Hill; Life Honorary President of the Waverley and the Knox Chinese Senior Citizen Clubs Inc; and a member of Lions International Box Hill.

Dr. Chong’s distinguished career includes serving as Second Officer-in-Charge for the Aeronautical Engineering Support Facility, Royal Australian Air Force; recipient of Order of Australia Medal in 1991; recipient of Centenary Medal in 2003; In 2009, he was appointed to ICLEI Victorian Advisory Group, to assist the work of the Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection (AMCCP).
